Four Eco-Friendly Crafts for Valentine’s Day

We don’t know about you, but we’ve spent a lot of time crafting and decorating over the past year. Whatever you can do for your mental health, right? We’ve pulled together some of our favorite DIY projects from around the internet for you, from heart-shaped bird feeders to wall decorations upcycled from old sweaters. So grab your art supplies, save your recyclables, and get ready to make Mother Earth your number one sweetheart!

1. Upcycled Vases

2021, or at least the beginning of it, will be another year for the books in terms of dining at home. How about making February 14 a little extra special with some heart-themed table decorations? We adore this tutorial from Polished Habitat. All you need is a variety of empty containers (shown in the photo: a bubble bath container, an Ibuprofen jar, and a glass beer bottle), along with craft items like scrap fabric, yarn, glue, and ribbons.

2. Bird Seed Ornament

This one is for the birds! Visit Made with Happy to get an easy recipe for birdseed that you can make right in your own kitchen. Once you’ve mixed all the ingredients together, shape them into hearts with a cookie cutter, use a straw to poke a hole in the top of each ornament, and let everything dry overnight. The next morning, you’ll be ready to tie a loop with leftover yarn and hang it in your yard or on your patio for your feathered friends to enjoy.

3. Bee Mine Valentine Box

Could anything be cuter than this themed valentine holder from I Heart Crafty Things? You might need to hit up your local craft store if you don’t already have colored construction paper or googly eyes on hand, but we love that the bulk of this project involves nothing more than an old oatmeal cannister. Once the masterpiece is complete, your little ones can set it out front for a socially distanced Valentine’s exchange.

4. Sweater Heart Wall Decoration

At KGBF, we talk a lot about shopping secondhand and donating or swapping clothing items you no longer need. However, have you ever considered ripping up your old shirts and using them to spruce up your home? We’re head over heels for this project from Pillar Box Blue. You won’t need anything more than a wire hanger, an old sweater, and a few assorted tools like a hot glue gun.
